It is October! The kids are back in school, the sweaters are out from storage, and the Christmas displays are up at stores just in time for Halloween. And of course, grown-up minds turn to hot, new coloring books!
My unscientific count of new publications debuting online and in retailers in October is almost 200. There are some great new coloring books for new and experienced colorists, as well as some books that may get the non-coloring people in your life into the pastime. When I made my first baby step into adult coloring, the few I had heard the most about were sold out online. So, I headed to my closest book store (remember bookstores???) to touch and feel what everyone was so hyped about.
I didn’t want to spend my hard-earned cash unnecessarily.
Unfortunately, the store’s display with its small selection of adult coloring books was very picked over – the only ones left were over $20; As a rank beginner I wasn’t ready to make that investment. My husband and I headed out of the store, and as we passed the magazine stand and lo and behold, we saw a few nice-looking coloring magazines at a more reasonable price. I picked up

Adult coloring books have been a trend for over a year now I have been using coloring as a stress reliever and for general escapism from everyday life. Coloring also seems to have the unintended benefit of helping my concentration and breaking my writer’s blocks. It is a wonderful way to alleviate boredom in a creative, productive way.
However, if you are like me, you haven’t colored in 20 – or more! – years. And you realize that when you start coloring again, crayons and kids’ cartoon coloring books just don’t cut it.
BUT WAIT….HOW DID THIS COLORING THING START??
